Surprise Party

Oh, did I tell you my Mom threw me a surprise birthday party??? I was sooo surprised! I had no clue...not even an inkling! She set it up so I thought my friend Gloria and her Mom were taking me to dinner at Ruby Tuesdays Gloria would pick me up a little after 6, so she could feed her husband at Roolan, and then my Mom would meet us there about 6:30. When we walked in the hostess asked how many and I said 4, and then I glanced over at the tables to the left and noticed that a gal I know from church suddenly hid her face behind the menu. I thought "hey, I know her" and was just about to mention something to Gloria, when I noticed who she was sitting with. I knew her too! and as my eyes started to wander around the faces at this long table I suddenly realized that I knew EVERYONE at this table!!!!! I was sooo surprised, I just started hugging everyone I could reach! I couldn't get around to the back side of the table to hug those guys, but WOW!!! My Mom had planned this for a MONTH!! I can't believe it! I have always wanted a surprise party and this year God told her to spring it on me. SO amazing! The only time I thought she said something strange was that afternoon when she said it would be the only opportunity she had to "go power shopping" for everyone, so if she could meet us at 6:30 it would be better for her! I thought it a bit odd, because I didn't know of any other big plans she had for the coming weekends that would prevent her from "power shopping," but then, obviously, I don't know everything she has planned for herself. What a treat! I am so thankful for everyone who could come ~ and SOOO thankful I had taken a nap before hand, cause otherwise I think I would have been crying!!! Too many late nights adds up to tears when emotionally overwhelmed. WOW! I am still in awe. And everytime I think about the emails between me and Gloria, and my conversations with my Mom I find little clues here and there, but they were not out-of-the-ordinary things so I just didn't even put them together! I feel so blessed, and so loved. Mmm...it's a good feeling.
Gotta run.

Run like the Wind...well, maybe just in it! =0)

I am trying to stay motivated about running in the winter, but today I cut my run short because it is SOOO COOOLD and WINDY out side my ears were freezing, even my lower lip was trying to become and ice cube! I should probably invest in a hat that will cover my ears, and dig out that scarf my friend made me. But, then what would I have to complain about???? =0)
Thankful that the sun was shining, otherwise I think I would have let my dog walk himself today.
While I was out today, I saw that one of my neighbors trees actually came up rooted. Two I think. There was a little one laying across the drive way and a big one leaning against the other tall evergreen trees in the front yard. Thankfully they would have missed the house had they come completely down. YIKES!! That's a scary thought.

My photography class went to downtown Oly last night to photograph the lights on the boats at Percival landing, unfortunately there were none, so we wandered down to Sylvester Park to capture the tree, but it only had white lights on it and our teacher decided it was not worthy of our time, she also determined that the decorations in downtown Oly are "LAME" and we should have gone to Yelm were all the businesses are lit up; but we found some businesses on 5th ave that had lights and set up on the side walk. Most people who walked by were very apologetic for "getting in our way." I thought that was very interesting. People are still polite! How nice!

We were out there for just about an hour and I was just about ready to quit because my hands and feet were freezing, when she declared that we should adjurn to Batdorfs&Bronsons to warm up and dialogue about the evening. She and I wandered down there only to discover that there wasn't enough seating for the 6 of us, so she left me there with strict instructions to "warm up" and went to find my other classmates. James came to tell me they had decided to go to Starbucks were there was seating. I had just ordered a hot cocoa, so we waited for that and then headed around the corner to meet up with everyone. I was VERY HAPPY to be inside and warm, though it did start to cool off after a bit. I guess my body decided to regulate itself to the current air temperature, even though I would have preferred that it continued warming itself! It probably didn't help that we were sitting close to the door, so everytime someone came in and went out the chilly night air came in with them. We had a great discussion about the nights efforts and what everyone learned from this venture ~ that patience is a HUGE virtue in photography, and that it pays to stay in one place and take the same picture over and over and over as the light changes. Also, if you want stunningly rich blue night time skies with city lights correctly exposed, put your white balance on tungsten (the little lightbulb icon).
Happy snapping,
